Synopsis

On the day Pearl Harbor is attacked, the Kimura family's world is torn apart. Forced from their California farm along with 120,000 Japanese Americans, young Sammy Kimura, his sister Kei, their father, and grandfather are sent to the Heart Mountain internment camp in Wyoming — where each must choose what allegiance means. Sammy enlists in the legendary 442nd Regimental Combat Team to prove his patriotism; Kei stands with the resisters who refuse to fight for a country that has imprisoned them. Their choices will divide the family for sixty years.

Inspired by George Takei's own childhood imprisonment in American internment camps, Allegiance stars Takei — in his Broadway debut — alongside Tony Award winner Lea Salonga and Telly Leung, in a sweeping story of family, love, injustice, and the endurance the Japanese call gaman. "A triumph of a rare sort, shedding light in a dark corner of our history" (Deadline).
